The Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants and Promotion of Toxic Substance Release Calculation Guidance(2015).

The achievements made in this project included: 1) The latest information on the Stockholm Convention and international control strategies of the chlorinated naphthalenes, hexachlorobutadiene, pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters, decabromodiphenyl ether, dicofol, and short-chain chlorinated paraffins were collected, and recommendations for control strategies of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were proposed to related administrative agencies in Taiwan.; 2) The working-group seminars were held in according to the “National Implementation Plan of the Republic of China (R.O.C., Taiwan) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants” (NIP) to gathered the achievements made by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Ministry of Health and Welfare, Council of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs on the National Report of POPs in 2014, and the project renewed content of the “POPs Website”, of which, the function were also expanded.; 3) The release quantities, reported in 2014 for the first group of toxic substances listed in the toxic substance release calculation guidance, were analyzed. The dimethyl formamide was the main substance, whose release quantities were about 58.77% of all the national reported quantities. This project has accomplished 28 on-site consultation of toxic substance release reporting and improved 413 entries of reporting deficiencies. Besides information collection, orientations were held for third group of toxic substances added to the toxic substance release calculation guidance. The project also made the release quantities of 2014 accessible on the internet to the public for reference; 4) Revised the “Promotion plan for the implementation of Minamata Convention of United Nations”, which serves as the basis for domestic implementation. Additionally, the project held a conference and established an information web site to enhance public awareness of mercury。
